Hendershot’s in the Athens Bottleworks was the perfect spot for the launch of Second Life. The weather was dreary, damp and chilly, but it brought everyone together inside and made the vibe warm and cozy. Around three o’clock, I did a reading from the book. Norm Stern did a wonderful job of getting everyone’s attention for me and as I read, a hush came over the entire space. Even without a microphone, no one had trouble hearing me, which made my voice tremble a little, but a tremble suited what I read—the first chapter and then the ending of chapter eleven, the pivot to my second life. I don’t recall my words after finishing the reading, but knowing that I spoke from the heart, I’ll write what I hear from it now, that seeing some of my very favorite people in all the world together, coming to celebrate the launch of this six-year effort (two years avoiding, four years writing) in support of me, fills me with such joy. It tells me I’m fulfilling my purpose here and I am so grateful.
